A property show will feature a Northumberland couple to explore how to refurnish homes with second-hand goods.

My Second Hand Home will broadcast on Channel 4 at 7pm on Sunday, August 21.

Many homeowners face the challenge of how they can afford to furnish their new homes.

Two couples, both first-time buyers, will go in search of second-hand items, from essentials including sofas and beds, to additional luxuries like pictures on the wall.

Homeowners Anu and Harri, from Northumberland, will compete against Gabrielle and Tom from South Wales.

Anu and Harri, a married renovations duo, have been featured in home renovations magazine, Real Homes, to share their thoughts on discounts they found during their 1960's home renovation.

The detached country property is their third renovation project.

Presented by Sabrina Grant, she will advise viewers and find out why everything needed to furnish a home can be bought second-hand or upcycled.

The pairs have 28 days to fully furnish their homes.

If they succeed, they can win back everything they spend.

The show is focused on the growing trend of decorating homes with second-hand goods.

It will bring the two households head-to-head over four weeks to see who can furnish their home for the least amount of money, and will come with tips for anyone wanting to bag a bargain.

Louisa Compton, Head of News Current Affairs and Sport at Channel 4, said: "Buying a home is one of the most expensive things we ever do.

"This programme will offer up an exciting mix of competitive edge matched with great advice on how to save as much money as possible in order to achieve your dream home."

Adam Vandermark, Commissioning Editor of News and Current Affairs added: "I am delighted we have commissioned this from Wise Owl in Leeds as they have been fantastic to work with.

"This unique consumer idea has lots of potential given the boom in second hand goods, and with money saving, sustainability and a competitive spirit at its heart it should do well."
