Two people have been rushed to hospital after a two-car crash on the A68 in Northumberland – with one car rolling onto its roof.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the A-road, between Corbridge and Elishaw, at around 11.05am following reports of a serious collision.

The road was partially closed for around three hours near Swinburne Quarry, Hexham, to allow paramedics and police officers to work at the scene of the serious crash.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At 11.15am today (Tuesday) we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A68 near Swinburne Quarry, Hexham.”

Following the emergency services attending the scene, the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) has confirmed that two people were taken to hospital, one with a head and wrist injury and another with a shoulder injury.  

A spokesman for NEAS said: “We received a call at 11.05am to reports of a road traffic collision on A68 involving two cars, one of which had rolled over.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews who treated four people at the scene and took two of them to RVI; one with head and wrist injuries and the other with head and shoulder injuries.”
