A man in his 70s was reportedly run over by a car in Northallerton yesterday as the air ambulance was spotted on the scene.

The Northern Echo received reports that an air ambulance had been called to Northallerton town centre yesterday afternoon.

An incidents map from the AA later reported that there had been a car crash on Crosby Road in Northallerton at around 12.53pm.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed that two air ambulances had been sent to the scene and one person was taken to James Cook Hospital.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "An ambulance came across a road traffic collision in Crosby Road, Northallerton at 1.44pm today.

"A team leader and two air ambulances were dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed by air to James Cook Hospital."

However, North Yorkshire Police have today revealed the man was left with serious injuries after the incident and remains in serious condition at James Cook Hospital.

According to local residents, a man was reportedly hit by a car which resulted in him being stuck under the vehicle, however this has not been officially confirmed.

Pictures from the incident show two air ambulances that landed nearby to the incident.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Air Ambulance confirmed that they did attend the incident yesterday.

A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Police said: "North Yorkshire Police were called at around 1.50pm on the afternoon of Monday, August 8 following the collision that involved a car and a male pedestrian.

"The injured pedestrian, who is aged in his 70s, was taken by air ambulance to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough where he remains with serious injuries.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of the incident and has not yet spoken to the police should call 101 and pass information for incident 12220139886."

The driver of the car was interviewed under caution.
