Vandals have targeted bus stops along a busy road by smashing panes of glass.

The damaged bus shelters on Yarm Road, Darlington, and damaged flower pots in the town centre were reported on Sunday, with local authorities working to identify those responsible.

Darlington council leader, Cllr Jonathan Dulston, labelled those behind the mindless act as “selfish” and condemned their “disgusting” behaviour.

“Seeing images like this is so infuriating,” said Cllr Dulston. “We are working so hard to build the town up and I won’t allow a small minority of people destroy our communities.

“Tomorrow I will be pulling Cllr Mike Renton and senior officers from Darlington Police and Darlington Borough Council together to make sure we are doing absolutely everything possible to identify and target those responsible for this selfish, disgusting behaviour.

“If you have any information regarding the bus stops on Yarm Road or the flower boxes in the town centre please ring 101, message me or email Jonathan.Dulston@darlington.gov.uk.”
