A main is closed this morning after shocking scenes revealed the road had started “sinking.”
The A64 into Scarborough has been closed both ways after the road began sinking yesterday following a burst water main.
The incident was first reported at 4.30am this morning and has been closed in both directions between the B1248 near Scagglethorpe, Norton-on-Derwent and the B1249 near Willerby, Staxton.

Scenes show water flooding the road leaving it muddy leading to a large hole opening up.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “The A64 is now closed due to the fact that the road is now sinking we are going to have to close the A64 at Rillington.”
National Highways Yorkshire revealed that contractors were on the site, however the road is expected to be closed for 24 hours.
