Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information after a male was assaulted at a popular park.

Officers investigating the incident, in Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street, hope one or more of those witnesses may have phone footage which could assist their inquiries.

It was said to have taken place in the park at about 7pm on Monday July 18.

A large group were present during the incident and someone may have recorded the assault on mobile phone.
