On the horizon of a Teesside field, contractors are putting in the finishing touches to what will be Amazon's fourth warehouse in the North East.

The vast warehouse, which so many are now familiar with, is going up off the A19 at the Wynyard Business Park near Stockton.

In recent months, The Northern Echo has been following progress of the development and has seen a patch of land transformed into a major logistics hub.

So far, Amazon has opened buildings in Darlington, Durham and Gateshead over the last two years, creating thousands of jobs between them.

But when will the new site open and how many jobs will be created? We've put together everything we know so far on the new site.

Handover date

Like with its other sites, an exact opening date has not yet been confirmed by Amazon bosses.

However, it is understood that the warehouse will become fully operational in time for Christmas with the main contractors set to hand over the site on September 30.

According to reports, construction is now on time and most recent pictures appear to show the outside shell is complete.

How many jobs will be up for grabs?

The new 'NCL2' warehouse, named after Newcastle Airport, is expected to employ around 1,300 permanent workers and hundreds of seasonal staff.

It follows on from similar numbers at its sites in Durham and Gateshead, which are slightly larger than the site in Darlington.

Earlier this year, Amazon started the recruitment drive of managers and HR staff, who are being trained at other sites before the opening.

Roles included HR managers, IT and loss prevention staff, but no Fulfilment Associate roles were advertised.

When will more general roles become available

Normally, hundreds of roles for Fulfilment Associates - the ones who pick and pack items for delivery - go live in the weeks before the site opens.

That means we do not expect to see a flurry of jobs advertised just yet, similar to when recruitment for the first three warehouses began.

What Amazon has said

Amazon has remained fairly tight-lipped on the latest warehouse but it previously said: “We are excited about our latest project in Teesside.

"We are in the very early stages of our development and look forward to sharing more information as the project progresses.”
