WE may be heading for a major heatwave, but this North East theatre group is getting into the Christmas spirit a bit early.

The Sedgefield Players Youth Group (SPYS) are bringing Christmas to Sedgefield in July, with A Christmas Carol on Sunday, July 17.

The story has been adapted for the stage by Mark Gatiss, who wrote Dr Who, Sherlock and League of Gentleman. Originally from Sedgefield, the group have been given permission to put on this play, normally only done by professionals.

This is their first performance since 2019 and for some it is the first time they have been on the stage.

The play involves all the group ranging in ages from 7 to 18. Taking the lead role is Emily Legender, who is playing Eliza Scrooge and Jacob Marley is being played by Otis Moran. There is of course Tiny Tim played by Caleb Gilbert, in his first performance for the group.

The play has been directed by Sarah Atkinson and Tom Guest, with sound and lighting by Richard Flanagan.

There are two performances on Sunday at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are available from Tickety Boo in Sedgefield, www.sedgefield.co.uk or by calling 07931-448470.
