Come Dine With Me viewers were quick to point out a pronunciation blunder on the popular Channel 4 show as the programme came to the North East.

The new Come Dine With Me: The Professionals spin-off of the much-loved Channel 4 programme sees three restaurants competing against each other and rating one another’s venues to try and win a cash prize of £1,000.

On Monday’s episode, it was the turn of three North East pairs of restaurateurs to take part in the show.

The show featured Namaste Indian from Sunniside, Pigalos in North Shields, and Anne and Gary Fish and Chip Restaurant, Balls of Prudhoe.

But viewers were distracted by narrator Dave Lamb’s pronunciation of a North East town home to one of the businesses.

And it was Prudhoe in Northumberland which the narrator struggled to get his mouth around, much to the amusement of viewers commenting online.

Lamb pronounced Prudhoe as ‘Proodhoe' as opposed to the local pronunciation of 'Prudah'.

Posting on Twitter, one viewer commented: “Never heard such an odd way of saying Prudhoe. And believe me I've heard some belters.”

Another viewer said: “Watching Come Dine With Me The Professionals in Newcastle/Northumberland and Dave Lamb has just pronounced Prudhoe ‘Proodhoe’. It's ‘Prudah’

“Every Northumbrian just had a tiny violent reaction.”

The poster later added that they were getting “flustered” over the blunder.

Come Dine With Me: The Professionals is expected to return to the North East on Thursday July 14 at 5pm on Channel 4.
