A County Durham A-road was partially blocked for an hour and a half on Tuesday (July 5) morning after a two-car collision caused traffic chaos.

Officers from Durham Police were called to the A67 Galgate in Barnard Castle after reports of a two-car collision between the junctions of Marshall Street and King Street at 7.30am.

A spokesperson for the police force said: “Police were called at 7.30am this morning (July 5) to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Galgate, Barnard Castle.

“It involved a Peugeot 2008 and a Hyundai I10.”

Delays of up to 15 minutes were evident on the road – with the police telling motorists to stay away from the area, due to both sides of the A67 impacted by the crash.

It was confirmed that no one was injured in the incident, but the collision did cause congestion that was combined with normal traffic queue levels.

The police spokesperson added: “Thankfully nobody was injured in the incident however the vehicles are currently causing a disruption.”
