DRIVERS at Go North East's depot in Chester-le-Street are on the brink of taking industrial action over plans to shut the depot down, potentially causing chaos and disruption across the region.

In just a few weeks' time, we're due to find out what the next steps are as concerns over the company's plans to relocate staff with a compensatory package to neighbouring depots continues to grow.

But the public can't really blame the drivers for fighting for something they believe in, especially when many will be relocated away from a place they have worked all their lives.

Drivers say they are concerned about the cost of relocation, impact on their family and social lives, the "break-up" of one big family and the loss of the historic site. Others say they will likely have to leave the company.

Whether Go North East's decision is right or wrong, these drivers clearly feel they must have their voice heard and they're doing exactly that - even if it means putting themselves in the firing line of what could soon be a LOT of disgruntled commuters.
