A Darlington woman has this week been fined hundreds of pounds for breaking Covid restrictions in force in February last year.

Peterlee Magistrates' Court heard on Thursday (June 30) that Weronika Frankowska participated in a gathering of two or more people in a house on Ribble Drive, Darlington, when the town was under tier four Covid restrictions.

The tier four rules in place at the time only allowed people to leave their homes under certain circumstances including shopping for essentials, work if it couldn't be done from home and for childcare or medical/care-giving reasons.

The gathering attended by Frankowska took took place on February 6, 2021 and she pleaded guilty to breaching Covid regulations by attending without 'reasonable excuse'.

The 20-year-old, of Humber Place, Darlington, was fined £340 and additional court costs and charges brought the total she has to pay up to £484.

Magistrates said they took the defendant's guilty plea into account when passing their sentence.

Frankowska has until July 28 to pay the full amount.
