The North East is expected to see lower temperatures and risks of heavy showers and thunder today as more unsettled weather moves in for the week.

After a week of soaring temperatures and a rather fine weekend, the great weather is sadly not set to last this week.

Cooler air is set to bring plummeting temperatures, and although it won’t be cold, temperatures will be a far-cry from what they were last week.

What’s the weather like today?

Today the North East is set to see bands of rain, which will turn shower as it pushes eastwards during the morning.

Some showers are likely to be heavy and there could be a risk of thunder as well.

Sunny spells are expected across the region as we move into the afternoon and showers become increasingly isolated.

A maximum temperature of 18c has been predicted across the North East.

In Darlington, many have woken up to cooler conditions and rain and this is set to continue until 1pm this afternoon.

As temperatures rise, however, reaching a moderate 17c, wind speeds are also expected to increase with highs of 14mph.

Tonight skies will remain largely clear in the evening but could will steadily thicken, bringing light rain and showers.

A minimum temperature of 8c has been predicted tonight.

What’s the weather like tomorrow?

Tomorrow there will be short-lived spells of hazy sunshine and outbreaks of rain and showers throughout the day.

A maximum temperature of 17c has also been predicted for much of tomorrow in the North East.

In Darlington, luckily, temperatures will be a bit higher with the mercury reaching as high as 19c for much of the afternoon.
