A 40-year-old man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of assaulting an emergency service worker following an incident that involved two children, 10 and 11, at the start of last week.

The incident happened at around 8.20am on Monday (June 20) at a property on the B6161 Otley Road, Beckwithshaw, very close to the local primary school.

A 13-year-old child also sustained minor injuries during the incident, which also allegedly took place outside of the property.

Police are continuing to investigate the attempted murder – but confirmed on Saturday (June 25) that a man has now been charged with the offences.

North Yorkshire Police, who are investigating the incident, has appealed to commuters, people dropping off their children at the school or any other members of the public.

The police force has also highlighted that the attempted murder is not connected to the school.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have been dropping off children at the school, or commuters passing by, to check their vehicle dashcam and report any footage that may have captured any part of the incident prior to the attendance of the emergency services.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information, is asked to contact police by calling 101, pressing 2 and asking to speak to the Major Investigation Team, while quoting reference number 12220105995.
