A set of unlucky motorists that parked their car at a North East beach were left devastated on Tuesday (June 21) evening after their car got stuck on the sand and it was washed away by the sea.

The unfortunate drivers, who had presumably planned to enjoy a nice evening at Saltburn beachfront could be seen frantically running towards their car in video footage shared online.

In the video, which was captured by a member of the public, the 4x4 vehicle could be seen in the distance, as the waves of the sea slowly made their way toward the car.

A woman is then seen walking towards the car, with the waves swarming the vehicle and eventually starting to take it nearer to the sea.

At the end of the footage, a coastguard boat can be seen arriving on the scene to help.

The Redcar Coastguard service has been approached for a comment.

Incidents of cars getting stuck in water are no strangers to the North East coast after a Ford Transit van was fully submerged by the waves in Redcar back in 2020, while several incidents of cars getting stuck on the sand at Tynemouth beach have been reported in recent years.
