Elton John is set to fill out the Stadium of Light on Sunday (June 19) with concertgoers hoping the weather will hold-up for the gig.

The music legend is playing the Sunderland stadium for one night only as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, with around 30,000 fans expected at the concert.

Brits have been told to expect soaring temperatures on Friday (June 17) with the South East set to benefit most from the warm weather.

Temperatures are set to reach 23C in the North East on Friday with highs of a potential 34C in the South East, according to the Met Office.

Elton John fans will be hoping the warm weather continues into the weekend ahead of his Stadium of Light performance on Sunday, especially those sitting on the pitch.

While stalls around the stadium are sure to be selling ponchos in case of wet weather, they will also be hoping for a dry day for the concert.

Here is the full forecast for Sunderland on Sunday according to the Met Office, as of June 16:

  • Temperatures are expected to return to normal compared to Friday, reaching highs of 16C with lows of 10C.
  • Forecasters predict it will be 14C at 7pm when Elton John is expected to come on stage.
  • The day will start out sunny with cloud coming over by mid-morning. The cloud should clear again by 4pm.
  • There will be breezes of around 10mph throughout the day.
  • There is less than a 5% chance of rain at 7pm when the concert will get underway.
