Hit North East docu-series Geordie Hospital is set to return to Channel 4 for a second series.

Channel 4 has confirmed the popular show will return to Newcastle for six new episodes, following the work of staff across the RVI, Freeman, and Great North Children’s hospitals.

The first series appeared on our screens in January and February this year, featuring a returning cast of porters, surgeons, dental nurses and more pulling together with their ‘unique warmth and sense of humour’.

Rita Daniels, Channel 4's commissioning editor, said: "After the huge success of the first series, we couldn’t wait to head back up North to further spotlight the absolutely incredible work of the staff at Newcastle Hospitals, as they deliver outstanding care with ubiquitous Geordie warmth and charm."

Bosses at Newcastle Hospitals Foundation Trust decided to let the cameras in last summer as the covid-19 pandemic eased. At the time the trust said: "While we were feeling, and still continue to feel, the pressures of this pandemic, this series is deliberately not about COVID-19 – it’s about our people and a warm-hearted look at what else goes on behind the scenes at a busy hospital trust.”

The production crew had to follow the same rules as staff, wearing PPE and doing regular testing during filming.

Camilla Lewis, chief executive of Curve, the production company behind the show says she is ‘incredibly excited’ to be bringing another series to our TV screens.

She said: "We’re incredibly excited to be going back to film for a second season of Geordie Hospital with the amazing staff at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals as they once again open their doors and hearts to us all."

It is not yet known when the new series will air.

Fans of the show can catch the first series again on More 4 on Sunday 19 June at 8pm.
