Multiple emergency services were sent to the scene and the A19 southbound was closed for more than an hour as they worked at the crash site.
At its worst, traffic was stationary and queueing on the A19 for around three miles, taking more than half an hour to pass the area.
A diversion was put in place and all lanes reopened at around 10am though slow-moving traffic continued in the area throughout the morning.
