A 67-year-old man is due to appear in court today after he was caught by a member of public carrying out “a sexual act” in a Harrogate public park.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon (June 12) when a man in his 60s was arrested after being caught by a member of public carrying out “a sexual act” in Valley Gardens in Harrogate.

The man is due to appear at York Magistrates Court this morning (June 14) charged with outraging public decency and breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

Police thanked a “vigilant” member of the public for their information and actions.

The suspect was swiftly arrested and brought into police custody.

He was soon charged with the two offences and was remanded in custody to appear at York Magistrates Court today.
