The secret ballot will take place between 6pm and 8pm.

The vote was triggered after 54 Tory MPs submitted letters of no confidence to the party's 1922 Committee.

So this afternoon, The Northern Echo headed into Darlington town centre to ask the public their opinions on this.

In the indoor market, at JJ Blair and Sons greengrocers, women were less hesitant about their opinions.

Christine Hanlon said: “I did vote for him but I don’t think he’s done a good job but I’m sure when he’s gone, they’ll just bring another idiot in so we'll be no better off.”

Christine’s colleague, Lorraine Smith, agreed: “I think they’re all (politicians) as bad as each other.”

The Northern Echo:

A customer at the stall at the time, Gail, did not hold back with her feelings on the situation.

Gail said: “I think Boris Johnson is an upper class t**t.

"It’s one rule for him and his mates and another for the rest of us. The rest of us get treated like second-class citizens.”

We spoke to Andrew on High Row who seemed exhausted with the partygate scandal.

Andrew said: “I don’t think he’s any good, he’s had his chance but I think he should probably go but he’ll stay as long as he can.”

On Skinnergate, the general opinion of shoppers was that they were tired of any news relating to Boris Johnson.

Sharon said: “If he’s going, he should go. Sick of hearing about it.”

We next headed to the Market Square where we asked Graham his opinion on whether Boris should stay or go.

Graham said: “He’s proven a few times that he’s not up to the job. He’s lied and then acted like we’re all stupid and can’t tell he’s lying.”

During the last vote of no confidence against Theresa May in 2018, Sir Graham Brady gathered MPs and journalists together to announce the result of the vote.
