ONE person was hospitalised and three people were arrested after an assault at a North East nightclub.

Cleveland Police were called to the The Keys in Yarm, in the early hours of Sunday after reports of a serious assault near the venue.

A 26-year-old man was taken to James Cook Hospital, in Middlesbrough, after suffering a “serious” injury.

Three crews from the North East Ambulance Service rushed to the scene to treat the man, while police arrested three people in connection with the attack just after 1.10am. They are two men, aged 33 and 31, and a 26-year-old woman.

Crime Scene Investigation teams from Cleveland Police were seen working behind a police cordon at the entrance to the venue, on High Street, throughout Sunday morning.

A statement from the force said: "Police were called to a report of a serious assault outside The Keys Public House on Yarm High Street around 1.10am, Sunday 29th May.

“A 26-year-old man suffered a serious injury and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, where he remains whilst receiving treatment.

“A 26-year-old woman and two men aged 31 and 33 have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody at this time. Enquiries are ongoing."
