A DANGEROUS driver who fled after causing a horrific car crash that has left a woman fighting for her life has been remanded into custody.

Kyle Schofield, 24, of Reed Close, Coxhoe, has this morning (Tuesday, May 24) appeared before magistrates in relation to crash on A1(M) near Durham at the weekend.

The two-vehicle collision, between a Ford Kuga and VW Golf, happened shortly after 1.15am on Sunday on the northbound carriageway of the A1(M), close to J62 Carrville.

A woman sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to the RVI in Newcastle hospital, where she remains.

Two other women and man were also treated at University Hospital of North Durham.

Schofield has pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He was remanded in custody at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court.

The case against him has been adjourned to June 21 when he will appear at Durham Crown Court for sentence.
