NORTH Yorkshire has been named in the top three most popular glamping locations in the UK, beating the likes of Cornwall and Derbyshire.

Glamping - camping with a little luxury thrown in - has soared in popularity in recent years as it combines the pleasure of being close to nature with the home comforts more associated with indoors accommodation.

Online campsite booking platform Pitchup.com has analysed its booking figures for each county in the UK to find which is currently the most popular place for a glamping getaway.

Their results reveal Cumbria as the top spot, as one in ten UK glamping holidays booked through the platform in the last 12-months were in the county.

It outranks popular camping spots such as Devon, Cornwall and the Scottish Highlands and accounts for 9.01 per cent of all UK glamping bookings on the site in the last year - over six times higher than the average for each county.

Cumbria is also named amongst the top ten most affordable destinations for a UK glamping holiday, with the average price per night being £78.56 - which is £5.90 cheaper than tourist honeypot Cornwall.
