THE year that Henry and Bella Walker wed, Harold Macmillan was Prime Minister and the iconic Cavern club opened for the first time in Liverpool.

Sixty-five years later, Henry and Bella's love is still going strong as the couple celebrated their Blue Sapphire wedding anniversary on Wednesday (May 18).

Henry and Bella met in the dinner queue whilst working in the Munitions Factory at Thorp Arch near Wetherby.

Henry tapped Bella on the arm and told her he was taking her out, Bella said even though it was love at first sight she said ‘no’ to Henry.

Thankfully Bella’s friend Irene persuaded her to give Henry a chance.

They were later married at the Knaresborough registry office on May 18, 1957 and have enjoyed 65 years of marriage, with four children, six grandchildren and even great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

The couple’s family joined them in celebrating the couple’s special anniversary at Thistle Hill Care Centre, in Knaresborough.

Staff arranged a dinner party for the family featuring Cava, sherry and, of course, cake.

General manager, Mandy Scott at the Thistle Hill Care Centre said: “We have had such a lovely day celebrating Henry and Bella’s anniversary.

"It’s so wonderful to see two people still very much in love after all these years and reaching a Blue Sapphire anniversary is just incredible."
