POLICE have closed a road in County Durham following a crash. 

Drivers are being told to avoid the B6309 near Medomsley, in the Consett area.

The road closure is between Medomsley Edge and the detention centre.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: “A road closure has been put in place on the B6309 between Medomsley edge and the detention centre.

“Please avoid the area and find an alternative route - updates to follow.”

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Drivers are being warned of road closures in the Consett area following a police incident.

"The B6309 is closed between Medomsley Edge crossroads and the former detention centre.

"A section of Watling Street in nearby Leadgate has also been closed, between the village crossroads and Tindale Street."

Another road closure is in place in the area after a sinkhole appeared on the A694 near Medomsley yesterday.

The closure has been causing chaos on roads in the area today.

The sinkhole had been fenced off and the road was closed after the sinkhole appeared on the A694 at the junction with the B6310 near Medomsley, early yesterday evening.
