The road will remain closed until Durham County Council attend the scene, Durham Constabulary has said.

Drivers have been asked to find alternative routes, and there is a large build-up of traffic in the area.

Consett Police are still asking drivers to avoid the area as of 10.59am on Wednesday, May 18.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "The B6310 at Longclose Bank, Medomsley, has been closed due to a sinkhole.

"We’d ask people to avoid the area and find an alternative route."
