A MAN sustained serious injuries after an incident on Friday night.

The 21-year-old suffered injuries “consistent with a bladed article”, Northumbria Police said.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which happened in the Byker area at about 10pm on Friday, May 13.

Police were called to reports of an assault involving another male at the junction of St Peter’s Road and Commercial Road.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital having sustained serious injuries to his hand and arm.

He remains in hospital at this time where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers have since launched an investigation and have carried out a number of lines of enquiry, including speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV of the area.

They are now appealing for any further witnesses to come forward and want to hear from anyone who was passing through the area at the time to check their dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and was in custody last night (Saturday).
