OFFICERS are making a further appeal to trace a driver believed to have been involved in an incident which left a cyclist seriously injured.

The 44-year-old male cyclist was left with serious injuries requiring hospital treatment after colliding with a stationary vehicle in Thornaby.

Police now believe the vehicle involced to be a white Kia Sportage.

It happened between 12.30pm and 12.45pm on Tuesday, April 26 as the cyclist headed along Thornaby Road in the direction of Millbank Lane.

Along Thornaby Road, the cyclist is believed to have collided with the driver’s door of a stationary car and reported that he then spoke with the female driver.

Officers believe that the driver may not have realised the level of injury to the cyclist at the time.

The cyclist currently remains in hospital receiving treatment.

Officers are appealing to the driver of the white Kia Sportage to come forward and speak with them.

Anyone who may know the driver of the vehicle is also asked to come forward and contact PC Andrew Pitts from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit, on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number 069358.
