PLANS for a new Italian-style eatery are in progress for one Darlington business.

Dough will be opening on West Auckland Road in Cockerton, Darlington.

Signs have now been put in place, although it is not yet known when customers will be dining in the new Mediterranean eat-house.

The team at Salt, a restaurant and takeaway on Grange Road in the town, has set its sights on the property on West Auckland Road to expand the business.

Salt already has a loyal customer base that loves the fusion-food on offer including burgers and bao buns.

Dough will be serving Italian-inspired dishes including pizza, pasta and charcuterie.

This has caused excitement on social media, with local people looking forward to trying the new restaurant.

One Facebbok user, Debbie Ward, said: “Just saw that…can’t wait to try it.”

There were plans for Salt to also move into Darlington Indoor Market, although this has not happened yet.

Speaking to The Northern Echo previously about the decision to expand the business, one of the owners, Aaron Walbourne, said: “We really love food and we’ve got an experienced team with staff who are really talented.

“It’s giving them an opportunity to branch out a bit. We don’t want to put all of our eggs in one basket and just be one food place. SALT is absolutely flying but there is nothing wrong with expanding.

“Since the lockdown, business has been flying for us and it’s not slowed down, so launching Dough complements the business nicely. The restaurant has its own location and we want to provide more high quality takeaway to people.”

As so many businesses have not survived the last two years of the pandemic, this small food empire is going from strength to strength.

With already over 3,000 followers on Instagram, locals are certainly excited for trying the latest addition to the Darlington food scene.

Salt Streetfood Kitchen & Bar was approached for comment.
