A COUNTY Durham sports club has become the victim of vandalism after ‘yobs’ on an electric motorbike caused extensive damage to its green spaces.

Taking to social media on Thursday (May 5) morning, Consett & District Golf Club confirmed that vandals had targeted one of their greens with a motorbike the evening before – leaving big scorch marks on and around the course and burning tyre marks into the fairways.

Despite trying their best to repair the damage themselves, the golf club, based on Elmfield Road, apologised to its members and visitors online for any inconvenience after withstanding the damage that the “little cherubs” caused.

In a statement, the golf club said: “We’re disappointed this morning to say the least, thanks to the two little cherubs for damaging the fourth green on your electric motorbikes.

“We have done our best to repair the damage, so hopefully disruption will be to a minimum. Apologies.”

This is not the first time that the golf club has become a target of anti-social behaviour.

Officials at Consett and District Golf Club were left to tidy up the mess and tally up losses to its funds caused by overnight intrusions, on December 11, 2020, after a self-confessed alcoholic broke into a golf clubhouse twice within hours to steal booze.
