THE Amazon fulfilment centre in Darlington has made a £1,000 donation to a local NHS Trust through its fundraising arm, Our Hospitals Charity.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust supports more than 1.5 million patients, carers and families across Tees Valley and North Yorkshire.

Its charity, Our Hospitals Charity offers financial help to fund specialist services such as cardiothoracic and gynaecology care, and cancer and neurosciences research.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of only three hospital trusts in the UK operating robotic surgical systems.

This makes it possible for surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery with greater precision using tiny instruments controlled remotely by the surgeon sitting at a console.

Mallikarjun Erasu, General Manager at Amazon in Darlington, said:

“South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers vital services for people across the North East.

"We’re pleased to support the staff with this donation, and we hope it enables them to continue the great work the charity does across the region.”

Ben Murphy, Head of Our Hospitals Charity at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said:

“We want to say thank you to Mallikarjun and the team at Amazon in Darlington for this welcome donation. We strive to ensure specialist care is available to patients across the region and we couldn’t do that without the support of the community and donations like this.”

The donation to South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than five million healthy breakfasts to families in England.
