A SHOP worker was left terrified after she was threatened with a kitchen knife before two men grabbed the till and fled the scene.

Durham Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident shortly before 8.50pm yesterday (May 3) at The Late Shopper, in Proudfoot Drive, Bishop Auckland.

Two men threatened a female member of staff with a kitchen knife before stealing the till and running out of the shop.

The suspects, who were dressed all in black, are believed to have made off in the direction of Howard Close towards Bishop Auckland College.

Detective Sergeant Claire Callaghan, from Durham Constabulary, said: “This was an extremely frightening incident for the victim.

“Thankfully she did not sustain any injuries, but she was understandably left shaken by the incident.

“We have been working hard to trace the suspects and are carrying out several lines of enquiry, including viewing CCTV footage and carrying out house-to-house enquiries.

“We’d like to speak to anyone who may have any information that could assist our investigation.”
