A MAN from Durham has been fined after testing positive for cannabis in his blood when driving a vehicle.

On December 19 2021, Jonathan Martin, 27, drove a Ford Transit Van in Spennymoor with 7 micrograms of cannabis found in his blood, exceeding the specified limit of 2 micrograms.

The Durham man of Hawthorn Cottages, South Hetton, appeared before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (April 28).

He pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £120. He also had to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £34, and to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

This happened during a period of suspended sentence order made by County Durham and Darlington Magistrates’ Court on November 1 2021 for the offence of burglary.

He was fined £80 for the breach offence and will have to pay a total of £319 by May 12 2022.
