A NORTH EAST charity has announced its first-ever fundraising cycling tour.

Cyclists are encouraged to get on their bikes and support Teesside Hospice to raise as much money as possible to help people within the local community living with a terminal illness.

Tour De Teesside, sponsored by Middlesbrough College will take place Sunday, May 29, and will start from Middlesbrough College. It includes two routes - a 100km scenic route and a shorter 50km route around Teesside.

The tour is sponsored by Middlesbrough College, who have also become a corporate supporter of the event.

Matthew Telling, group director of business engagement and partnerships said “The support Teesside Hospice gives to the local community is second to none. We want to support them so they can continue to provide the high-quality care for the people and families of Teesside that need them most.

“When we found out about Tour De Teesside, we knew we had to get involved. We want to help develop and promote the Teesside area and create lifetime opportunities not just for our students but for the people of Teesside, and we think teaming up with Teesside Hospice on this project is the perfect chance to do this.”

The Northern Echo:

Debbie Coulson, director of income generation at Teesside Hospice added: “We are delighted to be working with Middlesbrough College and are extremely grateful for their generous support. It’s been such a long time since we’ve been able to hold events like this and we are hoping our cycling community will get involved to make it a success.

“Teesside Hospice needs to raise £5,600 a day to deliver the care that local people with a terminal illness need. If you love cycling what better way to show your support that spending a couple of hours riding across our beautiful region to raise money for Teesside Hospice – It’s going to be awesome!”

To get involved, register online www.teessidehospice.org. Entry costs £30 and registration is open until Monday, May 23. For further information, call Teesside Hospice on 01642 811145.
