FOOD and drink traders and producers from across the North East will return to Darlington’s popular food festival this bank holiday weekend.

The festival returns to the town for four days and promises a wide-ranging offering from beers and burgers to cheese and cocktails as well as live music and cooking demonstrations.

Last year’s event coincided with the opening of the newly developed street food section of the indoor market, which features six food stalls selling a range of cuisines.

The indoor market has played host to several other events since its opening, including the popular Pease Pudding monthly markets and the Artisan Craft Fair.

Both the indoor market and the adjacent Market Square will again be used to host the event between Friday and Monday.

Market Asset Management (MAM), who own the facility, are transforming the historic site thanks to multi-million pound investment.

Laura Ellis, Market Asset Management’s events and community engagement co-ordinator, said: “We’ve had a lot of demand from traders and a lot of people have wanted to attend it too. A lot of the traders I’ve been speaking to have said it’s great to be back out there at events like this one.”

A Jubilee Pease Pudding Special will also be held on Thursday, June 2 to Saturday, June 4 as part of the extended weekend for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

And plans are in place for the return of the record fair as well as a night fair later this year.

Darlington Food & Drink Festival returns from April 29 - May 2 between 10am-6pm.
