A CAMPAIGNER from Darlington is raising awareness for a popular event in the town to be inclusive to all.

Nicky Nash from Darlington Disability Pride wants to pave the way for accessible toilets to be available at the Darlington Pride event this August.

Many local people attend the popular event but Nicky has been unimpressed by the lack of accessible facilities available for those who need it.

As the Pride event champions inclusivity, Mr Nash wants people with disabilities, whether visible or otherwise, to be able to access these facilities easily.

Mr Nash said: “I don’t want to take away from what the event is about but last year I noticed that people with disabilities couldn’t even go to the toilet when in the town for Pride.

“We’re not trying to take away from what Pride is about but not having these facilities will put a lot of people off. It should be inclusive for everyone.”

Highlighting the fact that this is a crucial need at this kind of busy event for people with disabilities who may or may not also be part of the LGBTQ+ community.

A spokesperson from Darlington Borough Council said: “The Pride event is in the Market Square and there are accessible toilets in the Dolphin Centre that will be available throughout.”
