NOT one but two Easter Bunnies hopped along to a North-East racecourse today to hand out chocolate treats to children.

Redcar Races staged its Easter Monday meeting and the giant bunnies were joined by Alice in Wonderland characters for the special occasion.

Youngsters arriving early with their families were presented with chocolate mini-eggs, and the owners of the winning horses in each race are receiving Easter eggs as part of their prizes.

Children’s entertainment included a bouncy castle, balloon-modelling and face-painting in The Course Enclosure.

One of the early birds was Nicole Dixon, nine, of Newcastle, who said: “It’s really nice to meet the Easter bunnies.”

Her mum, Toni, added: “This is our first time at Redcar and it looks really canny. Nicole is thrilled to have met the Easter bunnies.”

Miya Watson, nine, of Guisborough, and her cousin Amelia Ghaemian, bumped into the Easter bunnies near a traditional ice cream van.

Redcar general manager Amy Fair said: “We love our Easter Monday meeting, especially when the sun’s shining, because we pride ourselves on being a family-friendly course and it’s always lovely to see children with big smiles on their faces.”
