UP TO 30 new jobs could be created if a proposal for a new aircraft hangar able to house up to eight planes at Teesside Airport is approved.

The proposed new facility, submitted on behalf of Draken, would house Alca L159 small jets in addition to the existing eight Dassault Falcon jets based in Hangar 360.

It would be located adjacent to Hangar 360, which is Draken’s current operating base at the site, and will use the same aircraft apron as its current operations.

Plans reveal the hangar will be used for the storage of aircraft, and line maintenance only. This implies light cosmetic maintenance of the aircraft. All heavy maintenance will be carried out in H360 next door.

Draken - a provider of tactical fighter aircraft – says the investment will create an additional 25-30 direct jobs within the new facility itself and will indirectly support existing employment at Teesside International Airport, through the purchase of goods and services to support its business activities.

Building materials used in the external construction of the facilities will be in line with premises of similar type and usage.

An additional 25 car parking spaces will be provided for staff, as an extension to the existing car parking area.

The proposal comes after a £200million business park is set to be built at the airport. It will see the new facility open on the southside of the airport, and could create up to 4,400 jobs say officials.

The first phase will see the creation of four new units along a through road, with the ability to split them into as many as ten smaller units.Further development will see plots of between one to 200 acres developed as more businesses look to base themselves at the airport.

A new 1.5km A67 link road, running direct to the southside area will lead to the creation of a new roundabout close to Wilkinson’s Plant Centre.
