THE streets of Barnard Castle were turned into vibrant canvases on Saturday (March 19) after a colour run event came to the town – painting the route with numerous colours and brightening up the outfits of those that took part.

Throughout the day, participants of the event ran around a 750-metre course during ten-minute intervals, while volunteers covered them in powder paints.

Before the colour run, everyone was issued with a white t-shirt that was soon turned into a colourful design as soon as paint was added to it.

The all-ages event saw families, friends and young people enjoying the course, which ran from the footway around Woodleigh/Scar Top, down to the stone sheep, a right turn along the path by the river to the silver bridge, and then right turn and up the hill toward the mini golf to the start/finish area.

Organised by Town Mayor, Cllr Rima Chatterjee, the event marked the start of Spring and is usually termed as the ‘Holi’ festival, due to the colourful nature of the event.
