FRESH pictures have revealed the progress on Amazon's fourth warehouse in the North East as it is expected to open later this year.

The online retailer, which has sites in Durham, Darlington and Gateshead, will move into the huge "Fulfilment Centre" in the Wynyard Business Park, near Stockton.

Located off the A19, the warehouse is expected to create more than a thousand jobs, with hundreds of seasonal staff, once it becomes operational.

Towards the end of last year, just a shell could be seen from the A19 as Amazon remained tight-lipped on whether they would be moving in.

Sources close to the retailer confirmed there were plans for a brand new site, codenamed "NCL2," which followed on from the name given to the NCL1 warehouse in Gateshead.

However, the retailer later exclusively confirmed to The Northern Echo that they were behind the development and that it was opening a fourth warehouse in the region.

In a statement at the time, the retailer said: “We are excited about our latest project in Teesside.

"We are in the very early stages of our development and look forward to sharing more information as the project progresses.”

The retailer is yet to officially confirm when the new warehouse will open but it is understood around 1,300 permanent jobs will be created.

Meanwhile, it is understood the warehouse will be similar in size to its site in Gateshead and Bowburn, near Durham, which opened in 2021 and 2020 respectively.

The pictures of the new site in Stockton come as there are rumours a fifth "Fulfilment Centre" could be built at Scotch Corner in North Yorkshire.

Plans for an enormous warehouse were recently unveiled by developers with the dimensions of the site larger than a typical Amazon site.

The retailer had been approached for comment and clarification but did not respond at time of publication.
