A HOUSEHOLD in Spennymoor has been reprimanded after council enforcement officers were forced to step in to clear up a large quantity of “putrid waste” in the garden of the property.

Neighbourhood wardens from Durham County Council were forced to intervene after the whole of the yard area of a house in the town was covered in dog poo.

The ‘shocking’ discovery was uncovered after the county council investigated the property and found dog fouling all along the grounds of the property.

After looking into the matter, the officers shared images of the yard on social media to illustrate the incidents they attend, which prompted disgusted reactions from members of the public, with some calling on animal charities to take their dog away.

On the post, one person commented: “I feel sick just looking at this – I hope the dog has been rescued,” while another added: “I hope you've taken the dog off them as well as they're obviously incapable of looking after it.”

In the aftermath of the discovery, the neighbourhood wardens confirmed that action had been taken against those responsible but didn’t add what punishment had been taken.

They also revealed that conditions had been imposed on the homeowner, which include the removal of the waste, disposal of the waste and preventing further incidents.
