WORK is underway to transform a former restaurant into a popular coffee and donut café.

Tim Hortons has plans to open at Teesside Park, creating 50 jobs, and is expected to open later this year.

The popular Canadian restaurant announced plans to open a drive-thru in Teesside last year and excitement around the new site is building.

Tim Hortons is known for its signature coffee, deluxe donuts and Canadian charm.

The Teesside Park venue will have dine-in seating for up to 136 guests, with additional external seating available, as well as its drive-thru service, and will also offer local delivery.

Its first venue in the North East opened in Washington, at The Galleries Retail Park, in 2021.

Frankie & Benny’s recently closed down at Teesside Park, which is where the café will now move into after renovation work.

Kevin Hydes, chief commercial officer of Tim Hortons franchise in the UK said: “We have a huge fan base in the North of England, so are particularly excited to be bringing Tim Hortons to Teesside for the first time.

“We’ve had lots of requests to bring a restaurant to the area, with several communities on both sides of the river and our nearest site over 40 minutes away in Washington.

“We are proud to be investing in the local community and are recruiting for a variety of full and part-time roles. We encourage local fans of Tim Hortons to keep an eye out for more news as we develop our plans.”
