A VIOLENT thug who pulled a clump of hair out of his ex-partner’s head after confronting her in the street has been jailed.

Jason Biggin also stamped on her mobile phone after he fell out of her pocket as he dragged her to the ground in front of her young son.

Teesside Crown Court heard how his victim was so terrified of Biggin following his attack that she has moved away from east Cleveland to protect herself.

Laura Jane Miller, prosecuting, said the police were called on the morning of May 29 last year when the 34-year-old caused a disturbance when turned up at her home in Skelton while intoxicated.

Miss Miller said he had been drinking and taking cocaine and the police were called again just after lunchtime after Biggin sent a number of abusive text messages to her.

The court heard how Biggin hung around the area and approached her when she left her home to catch a bus.

She said: “He approached her in the street and said - ‘I f***ing knew you would come out of the house’.

“He assaulted her by pulling her hair with so much force that it caused a large clump of hair to fall out. She fell to the floor with her hands in her pockets which caused her bruising and swelling to her arm.”

In a victim impact statement, the woman said the attack had left her so scared that she had been forced to move away as she didn’t feel safe in her own home.

Biggin, of no fixed abode, was convicted of battery, criminal damage, breach of a suspended sentence order and failure to surrender to custody when he failed to attend a trial at Teesside Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard how Biggin has 29 previous convictions for 48 offences, including a number of similar convictions for battery, criminal damage, and breach of a community order.

John Nixon, in mitigation, said his client missed the trial as he got the days mixed up and was convicted in his absence.

He added: “He understands that his record is not helpful to him and there are aggravating features including previous convictions for violence and being in breach of a suspended sentence.”

Judge Jonathan Carroll sentenced Biggin 15 months and two weeks for all offences.

He added: “You are somebody who is showing no interest at all in learning from your experience, modifying your behaviour or treating the women in your life with any degree of respect whatsoever.”
