A MAN was left with lacerations and admitted to hospital after he was assaulted while walking near a library.

Police say the incident happened at around 9.15pm on Friday February 11 near Windsor Terrace in Whitby near to the library.

The incident left the man, in his 50s, with a laceration to his head which required hospital treatment

North Yorkshire Police are looking to speak to anyone who may have information on the incident.

Police are particularly looking to speak to a man and a woman who were seen in the area at the time of the assault.

Officers have described the man as being in his 40s with a bald head and tattoos on his hands and arms.

The woman has been described as younger than the man, with blonde hair and was wearing a long brown coat.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and speak to the Force Control Room.

"Please quote reference number 12220024984."
