A WOMAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of a two-year-old boy.

Carol Hodgson is accused of killing Daniel James Hodgson Green following an incident in a North East bungalow.

The 39-year-old, wearing a grey top, spoke only to confirm her name and date of birth when she appeared via videolink at Teesside Crown Court.

Cleveland Police attended a report of a concern for safety in Guisborough at 10.07am last Wednesday.

The toddler, who was named by the force over the weekend, was taken to hospital by ambulance but died.

Officers arrested and charged Hodgson, of Upper Garth Gardens, over the weekend and she made her first appearance in court yesterday.

Judge Paul Watson QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, remanded Hodgson into custody until her trial on June 13 when she will appear before a High Court judge.

A pre-trial preparation hearing will take place before that date to ensure the case is ready to progress.
