A TEENAGER who has terrorised a people in a County Durham town has been made the subject of a Criminal Behaviour Order.

The court order, which replaced, the ASBO, was imposed on the 14-year-old today for offences in Newton Aycliffe.

It prevents him from entering certain areas of Newton Aycliffe and associating with other known offenders.

If found in breach of any of his conditions, the boy can be immediately arrested and placed before the next court.

The order lasts for 18 months initially but can be extended if necessary.

Sergeant Andy Boyd said: "It takes the police many hours to collect the evidence required to obtain one of these orders.

“We must demonstrate to the court that we have done all we can, with partners, to divert youths away from further offending before they will consider one.

“But we are committed to reducing antisocial behaviour across Newton Aycliffe and will pursue any individual to court if they persist in causing misery for the rest of the community.

“Antisocial behaviour in the town centre has seen an increase over recent weeks, a number of youths have been identified already and are moving up in the escalation process, please work with us to prevent your child from being the subject of the next court order."
