HOLIDAYMAKERS will have an extra destination to add to their list as a major new attraction has just opened at Teesside Airport.

The Dragons' Den star Duncan Bannatyne has opened his latest branch of the popular health and beauty chain, offering up treatments and massages.

The Northern Echo had a first look at the new "Bannatyne Spa" to see exactly what is on offer and how it is hoped the £100,000 venue will be a success.

Located in the departure hall of the terminal building, passengers are being offered a range of 15 to 30-minute treatments and experiences.

From hands-on massages, manicures and pedicures to LED face masks, the new venue will also stock a range of skincare products to take away.

It comes as Duncan Bannatyne's brand first announced it had struck a deal with Teesside Airport towards the end of last year.

At the time he said the venue would be the "first of its kind" for Bannatyne, adding that the move reflected the growing demand.

In recent weeks work has been underway to refurbish part of the departure hall into the new "express spa."

But as it opened on Friday, Michaela Hope, spa manager at Teesside Airport, said the team were ready to welcome their first customers.

Explaining what customers can expect, she said: "So we offer express treatments from manicures to pedicures, gel nails, we do massages and facials."

The Bannatyne Group is headquartered in Darlington and has dozens of branches across the UK.

Karen Wilkinson, operations director at the Bannatyne Group, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming passengers to our new Teesside Airport spa.

“The airport is looking fantastic, and flights are being added to more destinations.

"It is great that we can be part of its success story and offer something new and welcome commercial and leisure passengers for some pampering before their flights.”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen added: “I am thrilled to see the Bannatyne Spa at  Teesside Airport throw open its doors.

"By welcoming Bannatyne’s to our airport it shows how we’re doing things a bit differently to give passengers a truly memorable experience.

"This makes us one of the few airports in the UK with a spa, which I’m sure will prove popular as our flights ramp up for a bigger and better 2022.”
