YOUNG performers who had been ready to hit the stage this weekend - for the first time in two years - have had to pull the plug on the show due to Covid-19.

Durham Youth Theatre was due to stage Dick Whittington this Sunday, January 30 at Park View School Theatre, in Chester-le-Street.

Unfortunately, because some students have to self-isolate this weekend due to coronavirus regulations, Durham Youth Theatre has reluctantly decided to postpone its show.

The young cast and leaders had been looking forward to the show as it would have been their first time on performing on stage together in two years because of the pandemic.

The group now expects to present Dick Whittington at a later date in Spring, when self-isolation rules have been withdrawn.

Musical Director, Yzen Eng, said: "The students and I are very disappointed that we have to postpone our show as we've not done a show since January 2020 due to Coronavirus restrictions, but we'll keep working hard over the next few weeks to ensure that our show is a success when we perform it in early April."
