FIREFIGHTERS were sent out and hundreds of spectators were evacuated from a weekend performance at a North East theatre.

Crews from Cleveland Fire Brigade attended the Stockton Globe on Sunday evening, however they later confirmed the report was a false alarm.

Hundreds turned out at the theatre to see singer Paul Carrack for the Globe's first performance of the year but were forced to evacuate the building just 15 minutes into his performance after the fire alarm sounded.

Spectators were believed to have spent around 40 minutes outside before returning to their seats to continue the show.

The Stockton Globe was contacted for comment.
