AN employability tutor from Spennymoor says that she was “brought to tears” after receiving a heartfelt gesture from a woman that she supported into her first ever job.
Jayne Perkins, who is a childcare and early years educator tutor at national training provider, Learning Curve Group (LCG), supported her learner through two courses, gave her a reference for a job and supported her with the application and interview process.
The 40-year-old woman wanted to study with LCG to improve her English and be able to support her three children with their school homework – something that Jayne was able to do over the course of numerous months.

After tutoring the woman for some time, Jayne’s support mush have helped after the woman found out she was successful in a recent job application.
However, instead of just sending a normal ‘thank you’ to Jayne, her learner left an envelope at the reception of the centre where she studied.
Inside the envelope was a thank you note for helping the learner gain employment and £20 from her first ever wage.
The learner, who studied Understanding Domestic Abuse and Behaviour that Challenges, wanted to share her first wage with her tutor that had supported her throughout her journey learning with LCG.
The note said: “To Jayne, Happy New Year. Thank you for helping. I can’t explain. Without your help I couldn’t get any job. My first wages I share with you.”
While the money was returned to the woman, Jayne has now highlighted that the impact this gesture has had on her will “last a lifetime”.

She said: “I was brought to tears by this gesture from my learner. The fact she wanted to share her first wages with me shows how important the work we do is to support individuals by giving them the skills to progress into a career.
“I am very proud of her, as she has gained so much confidence since studying with us. The learner has never been employed before, so to see what a difference we have made to her life is very rewarding.
“It is all part of my job and seeing the impact we have on people’s lives is what makes it all worthwhile. I will keep this little note forever.”
